An All-In-One Solution

When I first decided to do a podcast I had to decide how I was going to record it. Sure, I suppose I could have just used the little recorder program that comes with Windows, but I wanted something a bit more complete. I searched around and found a nice program for recordingMP3 files. When I decided to put in a musical intro, I looked around for another program so I could mix multiple tracks. Okay, so now I'd bought two programs and a microphone just for doing a podcast. I had to record in one, then close it, then open the other, load the intro, load the voice, and then make adjustments. Not bad, but a little tedious.Especially making the adjustments. Then one day I'm wandering around the Internet and I find RecordForAll by NotePage, Inc. This is really an all-in-one solution.

One Program, All The Features

RecordForAll was designed for creating podcasts and it's perfect for the job. Instead of having to use multiple programs, I can use just one.

If you look at the screen shot you can see that the screen is divided into three parts. Over on the left is the "library" and that's where I keep my MP3 intro files, past podcasts, and so on. Over on the right is where I create my podcast. To get started all I do is drag my intro over from the left to the right. My recorded podcast also goes over here. On the right side I can elect to add transition effects to make the transition from music to voice a bit smoother. If I want I can also add sound effects. If I want I can also add a musical track and have music playing in the background. All kinds of options.

When I'm ready to record, I can record my show right inRecordForAll. It shows me the recording levels for right and left channels, lets me know when I'm recording, and when I'm done it can automatically apply a noise filter and maximize the volume. It then gives me a window where I can enter a title, an artist, a name for the show, and also give it a file name and pick a place to save it. Slick!

Fix It In The Mixer

The bottom window is kind of like a mixer where you can listen to your work, make adjustments, and get everything just the way you want it. It has some really excellent features. For example, you can listen to each track all by itself which can be very helpful. The line below the tracks tells you the tempo and the bar above the tracks gives you the timeline. On the right side you have a VU meter for each channel. Thezoom function lets you expand and contract the time line which is a really powerful feature. For example, if I expand the time line I can easily see smaller increments of time. That makes it a snap to remove pauses, coughs, a dog barking, a phone ringing, and the like.

RecordForAll makes it really easy to edit multiple tracks of sound so you can get them just the way you want. Really impressive how easy it is to remove little imperfections by using the zoom slider. When you're happy with your podcast you simply click Export and you can export your work as one or more files or to an iPod. When saving to a file you can pick from WAV, MP3, and WMA formats. Nice.

Lots of Extras

RecordForAll has some really nice extras that make it a joy to work with. For example, there's a "Snap To Beat" function that's similar to the "snap to grid" function in graphics programs. TellRecordForAll to use Snap To Beat and things like label markers,sprockets, and segments will automatically snap to the beat. That means you can drop clips anywhere and they will line up. You can also addmarkers for treble volume, bass volume, and volume. Additionally,you can put in label markers which is something I find very useful.

RecordForAll, by NotePage, Inc., is a complete solution for creating podcasts. Record, mix, and edit. Export your work to several popular audio formats. The program is extremely easy-to-use and very intuitive. To me that makes it perfect for both new and experienced users. You don't have to be a sound engineer to get really great results with RecordForAll. Pair it up with it's sister product FeedForAll and you can easily publish your podcast as well.
